Geographical names are proper names used to describe populated places and physical features. This new type of database offers an up-to-date resource for researching geographical names across 17 European countries. With more than 45,000 entries classified in a consistent manner, you have easy access to information like spelling, pronunciation, geographical coordinates and the category of the geographical feature.
The entries compiled fully comply with the recommendations of the United Nations on the standardization of geographical names. Within the language field, historical information and name forms (e.g., German, historical or German, Bulgarian transliterated) are present for some entries. The pronunciation symbols are in accordance with the International Phonetic Association (IPA).
It includes the following European countries:
• Albania • Bosnia and Herzegovina • Bulgaria • Czech Republic • Croatia • France • Hungary • Macedonia • Norway • Poland • Portugal • Romania • Serbia and Montenegro • Slovakia • Slovenia • Spain • Sweden
